5 Ways to Add Color To Your Outfit
Five Ways to Add Color to An Outfit
One of the things I love about style is color. I feel my best when I'm walking out the door in a colorful outfit. There are all sorts of studies that show that color impacts not only your mood and attitude but also how others see you! Whether it be a pop of color in my accessory, some of my most inspiring ideas are derived from wearing color. If you're looking to add a bit of color into your wardrobe here are some ideas to create colorful outfits of your own.
If a colorful outfit isn't always something you feel comfortable with integrating into your daily outfits, you can always start with mixing in subtle patterns, such as animal print. A little goes a long ways! Do you struggle with color? Love to infuse color into your wardrobe? What is your favorite way to mix and match with color?
1 | Add to To Your Outfit with A Bag |
A clutch is the perfect "starter" accessory when adding color to your outfit. It's small enough that you can stow it away in a larger bag during the day. On a scale of of easy to hard, this is definitely an easy way to start adding color.
2 | Add Color to An Outfit with a Pair of Shoes
Oh, this is one of my favorite ways to create a colorful outfit. Wearing a colorful pair of shoes is a great mood booster. Shoes are so underrated when it comes to adding something to an outfit. Think about it; with just one simple addition, you can immediately make your outfit look more amazing.
3 | With a Jacket/Outer Layer
A colorful outfit doesn't have to start with just accessories. This fall and winter, why not opt for adding brightness to your day by throwing on a colorful outer layer? This is a great alternative to adding color on the outside.
4 | With a Skirt
Whether it's a top or bottom, choose one layer to start creating that colorful outfit and you're set. This gold glitter skirt is one of my favorite ways to add a pop of not only color, but sparkle, to an everyday outfit.
5 | With a Sweater
What better way to layer than with a colorful sweater on top? If you've got a spring or summer dress that you're dying to wear or even a neutral one, throw on a colorful sweater over the top and you've just updated your outfit for fall!
Tips for how to mix patterns & color like a pro
1 | bring in one similar color. whether its florals & geometric shapes, stripes & polka dot, one tip for how to mix patterns like a style pro is to make sure that there is one similar color within each pattern. (the color coral is my similar color in my outfit!)
2 | mix a larger pattern with a smaller pattern. for the best pattern mixing results, mix two patterns of dissimilar sizes. you don't want the pattern to overtake you, so sticking with one larger pattern (in the area of your body you want to emphasize) and one smaller pattern works wonders.
3 | mix in a solid. to break up the busyness that can come from mixing patterns, pair the patterns with a solid hue. for those of you new to the pattern mixing game, you'll feel a lot more comfortable mixing prints with this rule!
4 | add pattern into your outfit with the accessories. new to the pattern mixing game? no problem! an easy stylist tip is to start pattern mixing by bringing them into your accessories first (i.e.: your bags & shoes). once you've tried that for a while, you can graduate onto mixing patterns with tops & bottoms!
