Tips for Putting Together Cute Work Outfits

When I spent some time thinking about my work versus non-work clothes, there's not a huge disparity there.  What I wear to work, I'd wear to networking events, to a baby shower, or bridal shower, even meeting up with friends.

Then I got to thinking about why that is.  I've come to the conclusion that putting together cute work outfits is all about the art of choosing pieces that have the right aesthetic so you can take them from work to weekend or day to night.   For me, I choose to wear work outfits that involve a lot of color, texture, and patterns.  Which I found, also resulted in me feeling a lot better about what I was wearing all day long!

Here are some things to look for when picking out cute work outfits:

  • tops/bottoms with structure
  • playing with color
  • items with texture
  • pieces patterns/prints

4 Easy Tips For Putting Together Cute work Outfits:

  • when choosing a piece with patterns & prints, offset your outfit with a solid color
  • if playing with color, jewel tones are the most beautiful hues and work on a majority of skin tones.
  • when pairing up a bright color or pattern, compliment the outfit by pairing it down with a minimal, more subtle color.
  • think about choosing pieces that have opposing partnerships to create balance.  what that means is if you choose to wear a pencil skirt (fitted) matching it with a loose, blousy top will work great.

 why this works?

A pencil skirt paired with a blousy top create a balance.  Too much looseness and it can appear sloppy.  Too tight and it can look like your bar-hopping, which is NOT the work look you want to achieve.  so combining a little of both gives you just the right amount of chic!  I am loving this silk tie neck blouse on sale at Ann Taylor & this embroidered blouse (similar to mine) from Loft.

ankle pants are some of the most chic work wear you can own.  paired with anything from open toe heels, to kitten heels, or oxfords, ankle pants are so versatile.  these are the pants I wear to work and non-work events.  They're some of my most favorite pieces to play around with.  some of my favorite places to buy ankle pants are j.crew, Loft, & J. Crew Factory.

Blazers are the must-have work accessory!  They add an instant level of professionalism and it's the perfect way to add structure to your outfit!  Find a blazer that cuts right at your natural waist, which will be the most flattering for your body.  We are lucky to have plenty of options for colors, styles, and price points for blazers these days.  Loft has some business casual blazers that are cut well and found at a great price point and Mango has some great structured, patterned blazers that I love!

So there you have it!  you now have what you need to create multiple work outfits with color, texture, and structure.  What is your favorite work and non-work piece that you own?
