Trend To Try | The Grey Ruffle Shirtdress
Sometimes you just see a dress, like this grey ruffle shirtdress from Eliza J, and you know this dress is going to make its way into your spring wardrobe. That's kinda how I feel about shirtdresses in general. They're really great pieces that are versatile and can do a great job transitioning from various seasons. This is the type of maximizing I'm a big fan of.
The Dress for Spring | A Grey Ruffle Shirtdress
Whenever the prospect of a new season rolls around, I always get very excited to edit my closet and add in a few new pieces. I came across this grey ruffle shirtdress at Nordstrom and just love the blue/white ticking stripe detail on the sleeve and hem. This dress line, from Eliza J, is one of my favorites. I go back to the brand time and time again (you can see a few of my favorites from them here and here).
It must be that it feels like our pre-summer here in San Diego but I've been craving dresses a lot lately. We have this weird weather pattern in Southern California where Jan/Feb months are usually calm, warm, and beautiful when the rest of the country are freezing their bahtooties off. It happens every year. Then when May & June roll around and the rest of the country is hitting late spring early summer, it turns grey and gloomy here. It's reverse seasons, so I'm soaking all the sunshine up now and enjoying all the dress weather I can.
I love that you can pair this shirtdress with a colorful heel or you can also turn it into a weekend dress with a pair of neutral colored sandals. I paired it with a simple Natalie Borton necklace. This is also a great dress to wear to a casual work meeting or lunch with girlfriends, even date night (think, Valentine's Day coming up!) That's the great thing about shirtdresses, they're pretty versatile. Granted, this dress has a bit more feminine detail to it, so you can't just throw on a jean jacket. But you can layer with a loose sleeve jacket or sleeveless vest, which would be a great layered option.
