How to Take Care of Your Jeans

Your jeans can last a whole lot longer if you take care of them right away.  Here are some tips for taking care of your jeans from the get-go, as well as long term.  It doesn't take a lot, which is the best part of jean care.  Overall, denim can be one of the best investments and

1 | Rarely Wash Your Jeans |

Wash after 10 or more wears if necessary.  Denim is a workhorse fabric and can be best cleaned with spot treatment.  A little soap and water to get out the deep stains will do over time.   Although, after a while jeans can begin to smell. So to freshen them up, throw them in the dryer with a dryer sheet on the fluff setting (no heat/low heat) for a couple of minutes.

2 | Wash in Cold Water |

When washing, turn your jeans inside out and wash in cold water.  Wash denim together in one load and use eco-friendly or gentle laundry detergent such as The Laundress.

3 | Air Dry or Lay Flat to Try |

Laying your denim flat or hanging to dry will allow your jeans to maintain their shape & wear a whole lot longer.  If you want to soften them just a bit, throw them in the dryer on low/no heat (fluff setting) for 5-15 minutes.  Then finish off by laying flat to air dry.

4 | Store Your Jeans In Whichever Way That Works for Your Lifestyle |

There is not right or wrong way to store denim.  As a personal choice, I fold mine (hellooo KonMari) up in one drawer by style (boyfriend/wide leg on one side, skinny/dark wash on the other side).  If drawer storage is something that interests you, go for it.  I have a small closet therefore, drawer storage was a better option.  As an alternative, you can hang your jeans alongside your pants and skirts using felt hangers.  Or you can use "S" hooks (check out this post) as well.
