How to Style Your Small Patio with A Pop of Color
My husband and I have lived in our condo for 6 years. Whoa, whaaaa? My how time flies. We moved into our building at the end of April 6 years ago. To specify, we live on the 13th floor of a high rise in a very urban area of downtown San Diego. Highs to urban living? I LOVE it. I love walking around my neighborhood knowing that I can grab a coffee, pick up my dry cleaning, order a pizza, mail a package, and buy a dress all within 4 blocks. Lows to urban living? Price and space. We just might turn into permanent renters and there isn't quite enough space like there is when you live in an actual home. So, what to do with those lows? Well, as a stylist, I improvise! I start with small patio decorating ideas that play with furniture and placement to make the small space we have feel bigger.
I had been feeling quite smitten with the work we'd done in our living room space I began drumming up small patio decorating ideas for our outdoor space. I haven't been completely satisfied with our "patio" space, as an urban dweller might call it. 'Patio' to an urban dweller means outdoor space of any kind. For us, it's a 7' x 5' space on the 13th floor.
Our small patio had been looking a little 'unshapely' for lack of a better word. I just hadn't thought to give it much attention other than to throw out a couple of chairs, a table to set a drink on, and a succulent for the much-needed 'natural factor'. Then I got to thinking that we actually use that space a lot, so why was I not throwing together some small patio decorating ideas to make it cute to look at, at least?! We have a darling little view of the bay from our floor and with spring here and all we find ourselves enjoying the view quite a bit.
SMALL PATIO DECORATING IDEAS: THE PATIO BEFORE
Sub Par..it could use some sprucing up, right?
I started my small patio decorating ideas hunt by doing some research on one of my go-to furniture sites, Wayfair. I was searching for a pop of color to give the patio a much needed make-over. My budget? $100.00. Maybe a little under or over, but $100.00 was the price point. What could I get with that, I wondered? I started refining my small patio decorating ideas research on planters (prior to the planter DIY I did) and outdoor patio accessories, then focused my search on outdoor rugs and table.
After some perusing and narrowing down, I decided that a rug with a pop of color would make the greatest impact and if I could throw any extras in there, I would try to squeeze out all I could from that $100! So here it is, our small patio space redecorated with my Wayfair patio makeover.
THE PATIO REVEAL
New rug, with a pop of color, and a new table & chairs. See the DIY planter? Such a proud DIY-er I am!
I mean, don't you just want to sit out on the patio and sip a lovely beverage with us? Yes, please!
What did $100.00 and my small patio decorating ideas get me? This lovely rug and the center table. The grand total with shipping came to $109.ish...so did I stick to the budget. Yup! I purchased the patio chairs from Ikea separately and am completely loving how well they pair with the rug and table! Join me for a drink, won't you?
