Are Socks with Heels Really Making a Comeback?

When I first came across images of the socks with heels trend when I was thumbing through a magazine last month, I kindly gave it a quick glance-over but that was about it.  Nay did I take it very seriously as it caused me to conjure up thoughts of my childhood.  Those old baby photos of where I'm wearing ruffled pink socks under my baby shoes with the matching pink ruffled dress.  You know what I'm talking about?  Those were the kind of thoughts I was linking to current images of gals wearing socks with heels.

Are Socks with Heels Really Making a Comeback?

So for the sake of further judgement on my part and because of a more recent conversation with my girlfriend, who happens to be totally and completely into socks with heels, I thought I'd do my research.  If this was going to be something I was going to give a thumbs up or thumbs down to, I needed some context.  I had to get the vision of little girls' socks out of my head.  Or did I?

So, my homework I did.

Fast forward to a week-long trip I just took in Paris. I had stepped into the most darling shop whilst out shopping (cause Paris and shopping go hand in hand) and lo and behold, the lacey sock.  Yes, the sock that may have had a but of ruffle detail and could be perfectly matched with a pair of heels.  And the more I got to thinking about it (maybe it was all the mental immersion) I starting thinking it sounded like a smart idea.

I mean, I have to admit, that wearing socks with heels in the wintertime is pretty darn clever.  Do I want my feet to be warm?  Ummm, yes.  Do I want a small bit of cushion between my toesies and my leather heels? Probably.  So dang it, this socks with heels idea just may have won me over.

Styling Socks with Heels: Yay or Nay?

So now that we're over the hill of practicalities about socks with heels, I need to move on to actually styling them without looking like a clown (or a one year old....).  Being that the ankle bootie is so on trend right now, there's a genius little style trick I think we can all apply that might help us give socks with heels a try.  Conni's 'Socks with Heels Basic 101: Match your sock color with your heel color.  Works like a charm.  It creates a faux ankle bootie look and that you can totally pull off!  Now socks with sandals, I'll leave that shocking look for sports fanatics and couch dwellers.  That's one trend I just won't touch.

Overall rating?  I'll give this trend a thumbs up, if done with a delicate sock worn with a close to matching heel.  (If you've graduated on to Socks with Heels 102, maybe you can give complementary colors a try.)   Thoughts?  Arguments? Agreements?
