Tips for Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer to Fall
Living in San Diego, with beautiful, usually mild temperatures, can throw people who love seasons into a loop. Why? Because as soon as most of the Western Hemisphere transitions into fall, San Diego offers some of the warmest temperatures of the year. September and October are usually the months with the highest rise in temps all year. So it makes for dressing up in fall clothing very challenging. So what do you do when you want to wear fall clothes when it's still warm outside? You learn to get smart about a summer to fall wardrobe, that's what!

Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Summer to Fall
1 | Start with the Right Basic Pieces
The base of your outfit has to be made up of pieces that you feel can be layered upon. Dresses, tees, tops, and denim work really well here. Even denim shorts can be used to transition from summer to fall. What makes this step so important is that with the right basics you can mix and match and layer your way into the changing season (and cooler weather!).

2 | Layer with the Right Pieces
This is where the sweaters, cardigans, and jackets do their part. The best ideas for creative outfits from summer into fall is with the layering effect. Choosing pieces that have interesting details such as a sleeveless vest, a light cardigan, or a cropped jacket are perfect for taking a dress meant for summer and layering it for fall.

3 | Accessorize with the Right Pieces
Shoes, shoes, and more shoes. Along with bags and hats, shoes can really add that something to an outfit. Accessorizing can take the most mundane of outfits and add that pop of interest that helps to bring an outfit together. Accessories with detail, such as animal print, or texture like leather detailing, are perfect for making an outfit pop.
One thing I love to do when transitioning my wardrobe from summer to fall, rather than buy a bunch of new accessories, is to rearrange my accessories. I put seasonal accessories (lightweight scarves, fedoras, and items that resonate with spring and summer go away, heavier items come out) front and center. This puts me in a 'new' headspace when I realize I have more items to play around with for fall than I thought!
