Travel Style: What I Wore in Italy + the Amalfi Coast

What I Packed + Wore in Italy

Back in January of 2020 we began planning a trip to Croatia or Italy, to sail along the islands and celebrate dual birthdays for my husband and myself.  We all know how 2020 turned out and the trip got put on the back burner until my cousin revived the idea in January of this year.  We flew into Rome, took a train to Naples, and sailed around the Amalfi Coast for a week.  My aim was to take a carry on and keep it as easy to move around to various cities as possible.  Here is what I packed and wore + our itinerary on the trip!

Black Hunza G Swimsuit, Tan Sezane Shorts, Paper Bag Shorts Outfit, Amalfi Coast, Travel style, Janessa Leone Hat

Just landed back from Rome and as I’m waiting on our last leg from SF to San Diego, I am so thankful for moving around Italy with a carry on.  From a plane to a train to a boat and back again, having the carry on bag with me made it easy to move around.  I wore everything in my bag a few times, except for one pair of shorts.  I realized on this trip, how important it was to me to pre-pack, prepare, and re-wear pieces.  Here was my packing list:

Travel Day Outfit

I almost always wear the same outfit to/from the airport on travel days and I go makeup free on long flights. I make a point to work in a monochromatic outfit in some way, as it generally looks chic when you travel. These Vincent James Wider Leg Pants have been my go to, paired with my always reliable Not So Basic Tank from Sold Out NYC, a pair of Jada Flats, my Clare V Travel Tote and the new Ruby bag from Freda Salvador.

Day 1 - Rome

We arrived in Rome late in the afternoon and made plans for dinner. I wore this L*Space Dress and gold Reformation Sandals that were very comfortable for walking. I paired it with my Clare V Fran Fran Bag - a travel go to bag for dinner.

Day 2 - Rome + the Vatican

The weather was beautiful for September. I was able to wear my go to cotton mango skirt, silver Aeyde sandals, and my white Sold Out NYC Not So Basic tank. I was lucky to be able to preview one of Freda Salvador’s new bags, the Ruby in Seaweed green croc, launching on October the 6th. It’s perfection. (You can sign up for their waitlist for the launch!)

Top / Pants / sandals / Poche bag / jewelry

I purchased these Bari Trousers from Apiece Apart and they have been my absolute favorite pants to take with me when I travel and also to wear dressed up or down. I paired them with the gold flats from Reformation and the Nanin top and my Clare V checkered bag. I loved this outfit.

Day 3 - Train from Rome to Salerno

We had to travel to Salerno outside of Naples to board our catamaran to sail for 5 days along the Amalfi Coast. I wore my Sezane striped sweater, a Vincent James tank, and black Agolde shorts. Paired with my Jada flats and Clare V Grande Fanny. In the morning, we walked around Rome before our train ride.

We sailed straight to Positano as our first stop. We anchored and planned to go to dinner in town, so I did a quick change into a black Vincent James slip dress, black sandals, and my Fran Fran bag again.

Day 4 - Positano

Positano is known for its many, many, many stairs to get around the city. I chose a comfortable outfit and re-wore my Bari trouser pants with my Enza Costa tank and JK braided sandals.

Bari Trouser Pant

Changed for dinner…

floral rhode dress, mini dress rhode, brown and white mini fit and flare dress, gold sandals

dress / sandals / bag

We ate at the most amazing restaurant that was a 20 minute drive from Positano on a hilltop in the small village of Nocelle, called Rifugio Dei Mele. The service, the people, the view, the food, it was absolutely stunning.

Day 5 - Capri

We sailed from Positano to Capri and had a day of swimming and lunch at the Fontelina. I wore my Janessa Leone Hat, Hunza G swimsuit, and Sezane Rome shorts with sandals for the day.

Day 6 - Capri to Amalfi

We sailed away from Capri and into Amalfi, another small hillside town. We walked around town, had dinner, and spent the day sightseeing. I wore my old polka dot dress from a UK based brand, Baukjen. We ate at Taverna Buonvicino, the most romantic little spot in Amalfi.

Day 7 - Maiori

Close to Amalfi is a small area called Maiori. We spent the day on + off the boat, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and swimming to the small beach and back. I spent most of the day in the water.

Day 8 - 9 Maiori to Salerno. Salerno back to Rome

This was our last day before heading back to Rome, so we made our way off the boat and into town, took the train from Salerno back to Rome and spent our last few days in Rome. I wore the Vincent James Slip dress, layered with my Dissh vest, my silver Aeyde sandals, and my Freda Ruby bag.

Day 10 - Travel Day

I wore the same outfit as my travel day heading to Rome but I swapped out my long cashmere cardigan for the Betty Cardigan. Boy was I happy to have a carry on, because our flight was cancelled and they had to reschedule us on a next day flight.
