How to Make a Simple Yarn Pendant for Your Wall
Every now and again I like to update the decor in my condo without spending a lot of money. So when I was visiting my friend Michelle of Mimi & Lu Jewelry, at her new design studio and saw her yarn pendant banner, I immediately knew this was the perfect DIY project for me! It's a relatively easy project, which I love. If you find yourself asking what to make with yarn that is an easy project other than knitting, this project is for you too!
I don't know what to make with yarn that could be an easier project like this, so if you happen to be a novice DIY-er, than no need to fear. There are a few easy steps to need to follow and there you go.
What You Need
YarnScissorsSmall sticks from your nearest tree
Step 1| Buy yarn or use what you have and gather up sticks from the outdoors. I purchased Lion Brand Wool-Ease yarn from Joann's for $2.99 a pack. They come in a million different colors (well, not a million but you get the idea...) so start by thinking about what colors would look great together and in a color palate that will match your space. I love the ombre blues, then I went with a color that would pop against the blue, which was a golden yellow.
Step 2 | Start with whichever color yarn you prefer, pulling yarn in stripes making arms-length loops, counting to 20. Using scissors, cut off the yarn at the end, and then fold yarn over into a U shape. (See above)
Step 3 | Lay the top of the U shaped yarn over the middle of the stick and loop the ends under the stick and through the U. Pull to tighten. Continue this step using different colored yarn to create a color ombre effect.
Step 4 | Keep adding color to your DIY Pendant Banner by repeating step 3 until you have your desired results or you reach the end of the stick!
Step 5 | Create a wall fastener out of a piece of the yarn string and tie it at both ends of the stick, loose enough to allow for the Pendant Banner to hang down 7-10 inches or so.
Step 6 | Using scissors, cut a "V" by starting in center of the yarn and diagonally working your way out to the edges. And, voila! A brand new DIY Pendant Banner for you to hang on your wall. All for under $15.00! What a DIY steal. This post is dedicated to my friend, Michelle, of Mimi & Lu jewelry, who inspired me to do this DIY and helped me figure out what to make with yarn from the inspiration in her beautiful design studio.
