3 Dress Types that Will Work For Your Silhouette

As we enter the summer months, dresses start to take priority in our wardrobes. They’re easy to wear, one piece makes a complete outfit, and can instantly elevate your look. But sometimes, we can get confused by which dresses work for our silhouettes. So let’s take some confusion out of it by narrowing down which dresses work for you! Here are three dress types will work for your silhouette.

why these types of dresses work!

Great dresses have some sort of “accentuation” around or just above your natural waist. Find your natural waist, a slightly narrower point at your torso, and wear dresses with an accentuated waistline at that point. Here are three most common dress types that do just that and look great on any silhouette

Fit and Flare

Why It works:

Fitted on top, loose on the bottom, this style fits well along the torso and also works well for many silhouettes

Empire/High Waisted

Why does this work?

Empire/higher waisted dresses emphasize above the natural waist, which is a narrow point of your body. The higher waistline draws the eye up and the skirt (can be mini, midi, or maxi) falls down loosely around your silhouette. The length of the skirt can be any length that feels comfortable for you but here are some tips: Petite? Knee length or above is best for you proportionately. Mid to Tall? Knee to Maxi length is great for your proportions.

Wrap Dress

Why does this work?

Wrap dresses are absolutely classic. They’ve been around for ages and the “wrap” style generally will wrap to the shape of your overall silhouette, which is the most complementary. Not all wrap dresses fit exactly alike, so if you’ve had one that doesn’t work, try adjusting the wrap height up or down an inch or two, to fit your natural waist curve, and that should make a difference!
