If it's one thing that we women have in common, we all have to pull ourselves up and at 'em every morning. Whether you work from home, head to work, or run a household, at some point you have to head out into the world and not look like a complete disaster. Because it's at the exact moment that you're in your yoga pants that you'll run into someone you know. (Like clockwork, me: yoga pants = someone I haven't seen in a million years.) That being said, these tips for building a cute work outfit can apply to any busy woman, any time, any day of the week!
5 Tips for Pulling together a Comfy But Cute Work Outfit
So how's it done? Let's put it into a few tips that are easy for you to apply to your outfit so you can head from that meeting to your parent/teacher conference in comfort and style. Oh and looking cute too.
1 | Pay attention to how the fabric you're wearing feels on you
There's nothing worse than wearing something uncomfortable (which is probably why so many of us walk around in yoga clothing so often...) but that doesn't mean your style has to suffer. When you're trying something on, do all the things: sit, stand, bend, and look at the fabric tag. Usually, I opt for pieces that have some form of cotton, modal, or spandex in the fabric as that means it will feel comfortable yet have a bit of stretch. As much as I loooove fabrics like silk and wool, I can't wear those fabrics more than once before I spill something on it and have to dry clean it or wash it by hand. So, I'm picky when it comes to investing in silks (even though they feel great on) and wools (I look for a blend so it's not quite as scratchy on my skin) and wear them sparingly.
2 | When it doubt, invest in comfortable yet cute flats
I really, really used to love wearing heels. Used. to. When I was in my 20's and I had just started teaching, I'd power through the day in my heels. Aaaaand then I realized that it wasn't realistic for my feet, nor for my career. These days, you can find some afforable flats that are cute, professional, and very very comfortable. For around $100, you can find some great options. My new favorites? These flats by Margaux NY. I prefer the demi style in pink and have an alternative in dove and wear them constantly. Bonus? They're easily packable in a suitcase and/or tote bag for any gal on the go!
3 | Double up on a great layer that will leave you looking polished
I cannot stress enough that finding the right pieces to layer your outfit with really, really makes you look amazing. It's the key to turning an okay work outfit into a really cute work outfit. As layering pieces, I love jackets, coats, and cardigans and look for them in different types, textures, and lengths. One of my favorite styles is a cropped jacket like this beige tweed jacket from Lilla P. Lilla P is a New York based brand that makes some great womenswear. Their beige tweed jacket has been my "throw into my bag jacket" that I can also pair with a tee and jeans. And what woman doesn't want an easy jacket that can go from dress to jeans while still looking polished??

4 | Carry all your necessities in a bag that works from office to outing
Small day bag be gone. I am a 'travel with all my things in my bag' kinda gal and if you're like me, you cannot fit everything in a small bag. So I rely on a tote or rucksack to take me through the day. In a tote, I can comfortably fit my laptop, a big wallet, my makeup bag, and water bottle. Two of my favorites are my monogrammed madewell tote and my Boutonne bag rucksack. Choosing a neutral bag (black, tan, camel, light pink) will ensure that it matches with just about everything, which is a win-win for outfit pairing!

5 | Play with Texture to Create a Cuter Work Outfit than Usual
Some of my favorite outfits are my favorite outfits because they have some form of texture in them. Take this lace dress for example. I'm not afraid, nor should you be, to mix it together with the beige tweed jacket. And is it okay to pair together two neutral pieces? Absolutely! Beige and white are a perfect mix. That being said, when you have neutral colors, it plays really well to have a fabulous textured piece (be it lace, tweed, whatever it is...just something that has the "feels" if you know what I mean)! If you have a plain ol' cotton tee or cotton dress (and who doesn't?!) add a textured piece to the mix and voilá, a great weekend outfit too!
