How to Style a Bar Cart for the Holiday
setting up some festive bar cart decor with wayfair
One of the reasons I love the holidays so much is that it gives me the opportunity to spend more time with my friends. We tend to get very busy during this time of year, but I always try to set aside a friends’ night filled with good company and festive details. This season, I teamed up with Wayfair to share a holiday cocktail and a few bar cart decor tips for creating a great holiday bar set up that you can share with your loved ones to fill your holiday with a little retro cocktail cheer.
Adding the Perfect Bar Cart Decor for a Retro Holiday
Our 1950’s San Diego home was the perfect inspiration for a retro holiday theme. I used it as inspiration to pull together retro bar cart decor and a retro cocktail to match. I wanted to mix a color palate that was a bit old Palm Springs with a pop of color. So I decided to play with metallic gold and a mixture of bright pinks. To fit the retro vibe, I started with a retro gold bar cart (because who doesn’t love a little gold) as the setting with which to decorate. (For the full product list click here.)
How to Add Festive Bar Cart Decor for a Holiday Party
Looking to pull in the perfect holiday bar cart decor for your feté! Here's a few pointers to get you started (read more of my tips for entertaining during the holidays here...)
1 | add special DIY touches
To add festive holiday touches to the bar cart, the easiest way is with a little DIY magic. You can do that by I creating a holiday garland to festoon the bar cart from top to bottom. Mix in ribbon and a strand of lights with a switch and voila!
2 | add non-traditional pops of color
To add in pops of color to the bar cart decor, I picked out some amazing agate coasters for a fun retro vibe! To offset the pinks and gold, a matte black and gold ice bucket was the perfect compliment! What do you think about the mix? I love it! Rather than traditional reds and greens, push the envelop with non-traditional holiday colors!
3 | don't overwhelm with too many pieces
Keep the decor simple by adding just a few key pieces needed to create the cocktail. Think about the bar cart as being the go-to place for everything you need for your cocktail from beginning to end (glassware, ice bucket, juice for the mix, garnish, and a coaster!). Keeping it simple helps keep the flow of the party around the guests and not necessarily at the bar cart!
4 | mix up a great cocktail
What's the perfect cocktail for a retro bar cart? A holiday punch! Doesn’t a punch just remind you of being back in the 50’s or 60’s? One of my favorite cocktails is a glass of rosé, so that was used as the secret inside the punch.
