It's that time of year again when the denim trends for 2018 make a massive advertorial push and pour in from all directions. Sometimes all of those denim trends can be quite confusing to keep up with, yes? Fall Denim Trends to Try This Season
No matter what the season, denim is a staple in any wardrobe. Each season denim hits the market with a vengeance. Everyone has a favorite when it comes to jeans. Maybe it's the comfort factor, maybe it's jeans you've owned for years. Each season, new denim trends hit the streets and some denim remains tried and true. Denim trends were popularized in the 70's and 80's and they are certainly coming back with a fresh new take and updated ways to wear them. (Hindsight, our mothers should have kept all her mom jeans for us, right?! Ladies, keep your favorite denim...).
Some jeans aren't for everyone and it's not to say that you have to try them all. But it's fun to introduce new ideas into your wardrobe along with sticking to some favorites. A jean trend I'll most likely try this fall is the girlfriend jean. It's a bit more relaxed than the boyfriend jean, so it's still within my comfort zone. Here is the skinny on the denim that's hitting the streets this season, along with how to wear them and where to buy them.
Denim Trend #1 | The High Rise Flare Denim Jean
The flare jean is perhaps the most underrated pair of denim in this denim trend round up. Flare jeans are often worn incorrectly, with the back hem of the denim dragging on the ground. Because flare jeans are longer than normal ankle jeans, it's hard to determine what shoes to wear with them. If you're going to rock the flare jeans, be sure to wear a pair of shoes that allow the bottom of the jean to just barely graze the floor. Wedges, heels, or any shoe with a rise is the perfect partner for the flare jean. When in doubt, tailor, tailor, tailor, your jeans to fit correctly!

Denim Trend #2 | Skinny Denim
Yup, skinny jeans are still on the scene. They have been, by far, some of my most worn jeans over the last few years. I know this trend might not last forever but there is something about this denim trend in 2018 that still feels fresh. Ankle length dark wash skinnies are probably the most versatile of denim trends. No matter what style vibe you're rocking, you can still change it up to pull off anything from a classic look to a boho feel.

Denim Trend #3 | Straight Leg Or Wide Leg Cropped Denim
Oh, the cropped jean. One of the most difficult to style but when done right, looks oh-so-chic! I love a good cropped leg jean and this denim trend, which came out a few years' back, is still at the top of its game. One of the tricks to styling this jean is to make sure you've got the right length and are wearing the right shoe. I'd recommend a pair of shoes with a rise or a pointed to and make sure the length sits just above the ankle bone a few inches. Any more than that and you'll start to look stumpy! One trick? Take a pair of shoes with you to the store when you're shopping and try them on with the pant to give it a try. I absolutely love the Pilcro Cropped Jean from Anthro.

Denim Trend #4 | The Girlfriend Jean
What is a girlfriend jean, you might ask? A girlfriend jean is the best friend of the boyfriend jean, only a little more structured than he is. If you've tried the boyfriend denim trend but just don't feel you can pull it off, the girlfriend jean might be just for you. I love a good relaxed structure, which is strange to pair the two but really works. My favorite happen to be from Banana and are under $100.

Denim Trend #5 | The "Mom" Jean (ie: the High Waisted, 80's denim)
I didn't ever think I'd be rocking the high waisted mom jean but I'll eat my words here and say that high waisted denim has saved my life. If you have any bit of a stomach, than high waisted jeans really, really work to help hold you in. After my pregnancy, high waisted jeans have been the only style that have worked for my body at this point. And I love them! I love them so much I dedicated an entire blog post to why they should be your friend, not your enemy. My favorite brands happen to be MOTHER & Mott & Bow jeans. They are super comfortable and worth every penny.
