A Gray Wool Coat That's Perfect for the Winter Months
Winter's chill is most definitely in the air and while it may not be as bone-chilling cold as it was this time last year, it is still downright wintery. Layers, this time a year, that's exactly where it's at. One way I'm getting through this cold is layering up in warm chunky turtleneck pullovers and my new gray wool coat.

A Gray Wool Coat That's Perfect for the Winter Months
Moving to Toronto has given me a chance to build up my rather outdated winter wardrobe. A change from the San Diego weather, indeed. Living here has made me observant of the classic & minimally refined winter pieces that I've been seeing all around. These are the investment pieces I'm keeping in my closet for years to come.
One of those pieces was a semi-structured gray wool coat. I've had my eye out for a year or so, trying to find one that was classic, not too heavy, and budget friendly. Before our move, in lieu of gray, I opted for a pastel colored wrap jacket. And while I love that jacket, I was still on the hunt for that classic structured gray coat. The one that I could wear from fall to spring, with a tee shirt or layered over a chunky knit sweater. I finally found this gray wool coat while I was on the hunt for Christmas gifts (no surprise, I ended up finding something for myself...ay-yay-yay) and it happened to be just around the price I was hoping to pay (around $200 or less).
I find that when it comes to items that a) I've been on the hunt for over a year for b) they're still around and have been for years c) the fit is right and it feels good/looks on, then I can justify spending around $200 for said piece. I know structured wool coats, trench coats, and double breasted coats can go for a lot more, but that is just about what I feel okay spending and telling people it's alright to spend on a wool coat. Ya know?
This might be as minimal as I get in terms of color-mixing but during the winter, I think cream & grey works really well as a color pairing together. It's the mixing of these colors together that remind me of cool overcast winter skies and snow drifts in the mountains. I found this chunky knit turtleneck sweater on sale at Club Monaco this past weekend and think that the pairing of the structured jacket works with the chunky knit. If you're ever in doubt, try mixing up gray, creams, and camel.
