How to Create Effortless Style

This time of year is a transitional dressing period for me, when I’m still wearing some of my lighter pieces but turning them into fall style outfits. Pleated skirts and linen blazers are two pieces that I use to transition when the weather still isn’t cool enough for heavy sweaters or light enough for just a tank. Layering and Shoes - The next very important step

Two really key components to make that look appear effortless are shoes and layers. Yes, it’s true. A good shoe and a good layer complete the outfit. Rules of thumb I usually apply when creating an outfit on any given day are:

  • Adding a print, a pattern, or a texture somewhere - even if you like wearing all solid pieces, you can still bring energy and life to an outfit with texture!

  • Finishing the outfit off with some form of a layer and a great shoe - Yes, even if you live in Texas, or Florida and layering is a struggle, you can still “layer” with accessories, layer with necklaces, layer with a headband. These are all forms of adding interest in a creative way. And shoes. Please, please don’t skimp on the quality of your shoe. Even if you’ve worn them so much you’ve run your shoes into the ground, do yourself a favor and take them to a cobbler to have them spruced up. Shoes really do make a bigger difference than you think and really pull together an outfit.
