How to Style an Oversized Sweater Four Ways

I’ve worn Sold Out NYC pieces for a few years now, my first piece being a striped shirt I loved. Then came the elevated ribbed tanks, a personal favorite of mine I have in two colors. Sold Out NYC now has a line of luxe cashmere sweaters and I styled one a few ways to show you it’s versatility. How to Style an Oversized Sweater Four Ways

These days, oversized sweaters are a big part of my wardrobe. Not a lot, just a few here and there that are neutral colors to mix in with my pants, jeans, and skirts. The sweaters are the pieces I can dress up and down, skirt + sweater = holiday outfit, for example. There are a few things I love specifically about this cashmere sweater:

  • The cashmere is ethically sourced from Mongolia - it’s super soft, very durable

  • The sweater is made in Brooklyn, NY - locally made in the US

So let’s style this Luxe Cashmere Sweater, shall we? You can use code CONNIVIP20 for 20% off this luxe sweater and anything full price site wide.

1 | Animal Skirt + Slingbacks

I’ve had this animal skirt for a few years and it’s fit and color keeps me pulling it back out again and again. This outfit combo works because the skirt is slightly fitted so pairing something looser (do a little front/side tuck to play with the volume) with it keeps the outfit proportions in balance. I am wearing it with the Toren block heel Slingbacks I’ve been loving, as an alternative to high heels. And then to add a more edgy touch (as is my style descriptors) to make this a less “feminine” look, I brought in my AllSaints Dalby moto biker jacket.

2 | Oversized blazer + Black jeans

This outfit is great when you need something work casual but warm. I love mixing more tapered or fitted dark wash denim (these are the Agolde Nico Slim Fit Jeans) with something oversized, like the Ultra luxe sweater, and then layering with something structured (but slightly oversized) like a boyfriend or relaxed blazer. Again, proportions balanced. You can shop these pieces right here.

3 | Leggings + Kitten Heels

I don’t often do leggings, they’re just not quite my jam (I know, sorry to disappoint you…lol) but when I do wear leggings, I like to dress them up. Last year I did a relaxed holiday outfit style video featuring these leggings. Here I have them paired with a textured coat/sweater combo (leggings can read as flat sometimes, so adding texture or dimension really helps). Then finishing up with a relaxed heel, like this kitten heel mule from Jenni Kayne is how I would dress it up.

4 | Wide leg pants + long coat

This outfit says winter chic and I love it. I always think you can get away with wearing white during the winter. Then pulling in neutrals that compliment the white (off white, ecru, camel, caramel, etc) create a sort of monochromatic balance I love, especially in the winter. This cashmere coat from Italic (not available but I tried to link some similar options here)

My favorites from sold out nyc

Here is a round up of a few of my favorites I have and love from Sold Out NYC. Use code CONNIVIP20 for 20% off of any of these basics!

Just Enough Puff Sweater

This organic cotton sweater is slightly cropped so wearing with high waisted jeans or pants works really well!

Refined Lines Top

This top comes in two colors and is great with wide leg trousers or skirts.

Not So Basic Tank

I have two of these and one in black as well. I wear them with everything and cannot recommend them enough. Ribbed, organic cotton, super soft. Beautifully made.

The Scoop It Up Tank

This is another tank I have and love. I wear this alone with short in the summer, or layered under a blazer or sweater in the fall and winter. Tucked in with wide leg crops or straight leg jeans, this tank is perfect.
