What Shoes to Wear with Wide Leg Jeans (+ how to balance proportions!)

Wide leg legs are, by far, some of my favorite jeans to style clients in, myself included. A few weeks ago, a kind follower sent me a link to a pair of Wide Leg Jeans from Zara and I found myself head over heels for them. I posted a video of me wearing them talking about how you don’t have to have certain pieces in your closet and I’ve never received so many questions about these jeans!

Tips for wearing wide leg jeans

Proportion || When wearing wide leg jeans, it’s all about balancing proportions.  The wide leg is narrow at the top and wider on the bottom, so partnering with a more fitted (or tucked in) top, blouse, or sweater will help create balance between your top and bottom half.   You can layer with a longer, looser layer on top, as long as your fitting your silhouette underneath.

Heels

1 | A heel with space for the front of the foot is a great option.  Strapy sandals, kitten heel mules and any style that frees up the space from the top of your foot to your ankle is a great option to create a longer look.

The Art in the Find Guide to Great-Fitting Denim

In this free mini guide, I’m handing over my go-to resource for finding killer-fitting jeans based on your silhouette, from shape to rise to inseam.

Boots

1 | Wear a boot with a narrow shaft vs a wide shaft, the narrow higher shaft will give the illusion of line and height

2 | Opt for a pointed toe vs a round toe  - rounded toes will add bulk at the bottom. A pointed or square toe will add a linear appearance, lengthening the overall look.

Flats

1 | Start with a square toe flat vs. a rounded toe flat

2 | Opt for a pointed toe vs a rounded toe

Styles like a d’orsay flat, a pointed toe oxford or loafer, or square toe ballet flat are good examples. A pointed toe and a square toe both give the allusion of angle and help to lengthen proportion which adds height.
