How to Style A Blue Cable Knit Sweater Outfit

It's a challenge during the colder months to find great sweaters that don't add bulk to your frame, don't you find?  I was on a hunt this season and came across a great cable knit sweater from J.Crew (surprise, surprise...) and thought I'd finally found a great alternative to that bulky sweater challenge.

Styling a Cable Knit Sweater Outfit

When the fall temps turn slightly colder, I love layering with a great sweater.  But sometimes the struggle to find a great sweater is really hard.  What do I mean by great sweater?  Well, comfortable for one.  And texture for another.  And finally, a sweater that doesn't add a lot of bulk.  One I can wear with jeans, then with leggings, and yet again around the house.  I need a sweater that is a multi-tasker!

Last month, J. Crew was having a 40% off sale (of which they're having again!) and I snagged this blue cable knit sweater.  Wearing this particular cable knit sweater makes me feel all those things.  Comfortable, not bulky, and I feel great in it. Part of the trick is finding a sweater that doesn't already look and feel bulky before you try it on.  If you pick it up and it already looks like someone lives in it, chances are you aren't going to love once it's on.

Tips to putting together a great cable knit sweater outfit

1 | pair slouchy with slim/skinny | the formula for a great cable knit sweater outfit starts with proportion.  If you're going for oversized and/or slouchy, counterbalance that with a pair of slim or skinny jeans/leggings.

2 | layer over/under | the great thing about cable knit sweaters is that you can use them as a layering piece for a work or weekend outfit.  You can slip on a denim top and layer a sweater over it.  Same goes for a silk collared blouse,

3 | add just about any shoe | booties, flats, heels, knee high boots you name it, the really great thing about this outfit is that almost every shoe works with it.   so grab your favorite pair of shoes and throw them on.  One fit tip to remember? aim to wear a shoe that sits just under your jean at the hem.
