DIY Gift Wrap Ideas for the Holiday

One of the things I do well during the holidays is getting my gift wrapping game on!  I love good gift wrap ideas and have hosted a few gift wrapping DIY's in my day.  This holiday is no exception, as a matter of fact, I'm hosting one tonight!  To get you prepped and ready for the holidays, I thought I'd bring the magic to you with a little tutorial for gift wrapping.  Oh, and invite you to the holiday gift wrapping event too!

DIY Gift Wrapping Steps

materials:

metallic spray paint, acrylic paint, painters tape, white paper roll, craft (brown) paper roll, newspaper (or other paper to use as liner), foam paint brushes (in different sizes)

step 1:

Lay out newspaper as a liner under your craft area to start.  Cut a piece of craft paper to any dimension you'd like.  (I prefer a four foot length to start.)  Tape down the four corners using painters tape.  Don't worry if any of the edges tear, you'll be holiday gift wrapping with it later!  Set out your paint colors of choice, along with a sponge paint brush.  (We're using metallic gold in this example.)

step 2:

Starting from any of the four corners, dip (or spray) starting from the outside in towards the center of the paper.  You can choose to stop at any point or you can paint the entire sheet with paint!  It's entirely up to you.

step 3:

If you want to go a step farther and create paint layers, grab the painter's tape.  Use the painter's tape to create lines across the paper to separate paint colors & create unique designs!  Once you're finished, you can layer with spray paint to create texture and added color.  Really, how you want it to look is all up to you!  Once finished, let it dry for at least 2 hours.   Then, wrap away!

extras to add to your DIY gift wrapping:

For a few more gift wrap ideas, wrap your gifts with textured ribbon found at fabric stores.  You can layer with the ribbon for an added look.  Then, add a sprig of rosemary, eucalyptus, or pine to finish off your already lovely diy!
