I've started transitioning into a winter skin care routine this past week.  I notice that my skin feels a whole lot dryer during this time of year, mainly because of the cooling temps.  If you haven't been transitioning into a different skin care routine during the winter months, you might want to rethink that by applying a few of these easy winter skin care tips.

What's Your Winter Skin Care Routine?

I'm sure that most of us have a regular skin care routine but do you have a winter skin care routine?  There is a difference and it should be noted, especially in the cooler months, that it is beneficial to make a few adjustments to your beauty routine during this time of year.  Why?

Stuff happens to your skin when the air gets colder

When your skin is exposed to colder temperatures, it becomes dry and often irritated (read: red!).  Why?  When the air is cold and dry, moisture evaporates from your skin much faster.   This leaves your skin feeling irritated and looking dry, tight, and sometimes chapped.  So it's important to combat the effects of the weather in any environment from snow (in Toronto) to the sun (in San Diego)!  So what's a gal to do?  With a few adjustments

So what's a good winter skin care routine?  Here are a few key tips:

1| Add extra moisture to your face:  Apply a moisturizing serum before applying your moisturizer to lock in moisture.  Also pay attention to using a hydrating moisturizer or specifically a hydrating lotion to keep your skin extra moisturized when going out into the elements.

2| Add a rich lotion to your body: Using an ultra rich body moisturizer, like Skinfix's Ultra Rich Body Butter, immediately after a shower or before going to bed.  The super rich lotion helps relieve tightness and flaking.  Your body will benefit from the extra slathering of lotion.

3| Use a soothing balm for your lips:  Not sure about you, but this is one of my biggest dry areas (other than my hands) when it comes to the cold weather.  Look for a moisture balm with natural ingredients like coconut oil and jojoba to soothe your lips and protects them for the bitter cold!  I usually opt for purchasing a few and store them in my jacket pocket as well as my bag!
